
Brussels: The Office of Tibet, in collaboration with the Bureau du Tibet, jointly organised a three-day training workshop for Tibetan language and culture school teachers from 22 to 24 May 2026. The workshop was held at the Tibetan Institute Yeunten Ling and brought together Tibetan teachers from various schools under their jurisdiction.
A total of 30 teachers participated in the training, representing 10 Tibetan language and culture schools from Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. The participating schools included the four Jamyang Lophel schools under the Belgian Tibetan Cultural Centre (TCC), Sherab Nangjey Tibetan Language and Culture School, Tibetan Cultural Preservation School in France, Children’s Seed School, Chushi Gangdruk Tibetan Language Class, Chonor School of the Tibetan Community, and Gangjong Rigzoed School of the Tibetan Community in the Netherlands.
Two guest experts were invited to lead the workshop: Tenzin Chime Nubpa, an expert in educational teaching methods from the United States, and Pasang Tsering, a teaching expert and Tibetan language teacher from the Mewoen Tsuglag Petoen School.
The participating teachers were welcomed with a reception on the evening of 21 May, while the official opening ceremony commenced at 8:30 am on 22 May. The ceremony was attended by Rigzin Choedon Genkhang, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, the two trainers, staff members from the Brussels and Paris offices, and all participating teachers.
During the opening ceremony, Representative Rigzin Choedon Genkhangwelcomed the participants and introduced the long-term vision and objectives of the workshop. The two trainers also introduced themselves and spoke on the importance of preserving the Tibetan language as an integral part of Tibetan identity and culture.
From 22 to 24 May, participants were divided into two groups of 15 each. The trainers provided practical instruction on teaching methodologies and classroom management techniques based on their years of teaching experience.
On the evening of 23 May, following the training sessions, Norbu Tsering presented a performance of traditional Nangma songs for the participants.
The closing ceremony was held on the afternoon of 24 May, during which participants shared their feedback and reflections on the workshop. The trainers offered concluding remarks and encouragement, followed by a closing address by the Representative of the Office of Tibet Brussels. Certificates of appreciation were then presented to all participants.
Tibetan Liaison Officer for Europe, Dhundup Gyalpo, delivered vote of thanks as conclusion of the workshop.
