The European Parliament Celebrates the Extraordinary Life and Legacy of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

November 19, 2025

Brussels, 18 November: The Office of Tibet, Brussels, organised the official launch of a special exhibition titled “His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet: Celebrating 90 Years of Wisdom and Compassion” at the European Parliament. The carefully curated selection of photo exhibition honouring the life and legacy of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, drew a significant gathering of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), Parliamentary staffers, and invited guests.

The inaugural programme began with an invocation by Geshe Tseten Phuntsok, setting a tone of reflection and reverence for the occasion. This was followed by welcome addresses delivered by MEP Dainius Zalimas, co-chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Group for Tibet and host of the event, and Rigzin Genkhang, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Office of Tibet in Brussels, each highlighting His Holiness’ decades-long commitment to peace, compassion, and non-violence. Speakers also reflected on His Holiness’ numerous visits to the European Parliament and the important role the house has played in supporting the just cause of Tibet.

Following the formal function, the guests were invited to a Tibetan cultural performance by Norbu Tsering, offering a vivid glimpse into Tibet’s artistic and spiritual traditions. Through music and dance, in traditional attire, the performer conveyed the richness and depth of Tibetan culture, reinforcing the importance of safeguarding it for future generations and creating a festive atmosphere.

This exhibition, pays tribute to the exceptional journey of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a universally recognised spiritual and moral figure who has dedicated his life to promoting compassion, peace and non-violence. Through a series of illustrated panels, photographs and quotes, visitors are invited to discover the major stages of his life: from his childhood in Tibet to his exile in India, from his struggle for human dignity to becoming an emblematic figure of wisdom on the world stage. It will remain on display until Friday, 21 November,  providing opportunity for members and visitors of the European Parliament to engage with its message of peace, resilience, and cultural preservation.

The event successfully concluded with guests inspired to imbibe His Holiness’ message of universal human values, compassion, and peace.
