Brussels, 27 October: Les Amis du Tibet Luxembourg, an NGO working for the welfare and empowerment of Tibetan refugees through initiatives in education, health, culture, and environmental preservation, proudly celebrated its 30th founding anniversary with great enthusiasm. The milestone event, held on 25 October in the city of Luxembourg, was joined by the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the EU, Western Europe and the Maghreb, Rigzin Genkhang, as the Chief Guest on the invitation of the organisation.
The event brought together members, volunteers, community leaders, long-time supporters, and beneficiaries who have been part of the NGO’s three decades of service and commitment to the Tibetan refugee community.
President Pierre Baumann expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants and supporters, reflecting on the organisation’s journey and outlining its future vision. Several senior members and volunteers were honoured for their long-standing and dedicated service.
In her keynote address, Representative Rigzin Genkhang extended heartfelt congratulations to the founders, staff, and supporters of Les Amis du Tibet Luxembourg for their unwavering dedication and selfless contributions toward the upliftment of Tibetan refugees. She emphasised the crucial role of civil society organisations in sustaining Tibetan identity and promoting collective resilience in exile.
“For the past thirty years, Les Amis du Tibet Luxembourg has played a crucial role in nurturing education, preserving our rich cultural heritage that is at risk of extinction in our homeland Tibet, improving community health, and fostering harmony with our natural environment,” said Representative Genkhang. “Your work stands as a true reflection of compassion and generosity.”
Representative Genkhang concluded her remarks by reaffirming the Central Tibetan administration’s continued appreciation for organisations like Les Amis du Tibet Luxembourg, whose tireless work keeps alive the values and vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. And as a token of appreciation, Representative Genkhang offered a scarf, a memento and custom-made T-Shirts celebrating the Year of Compassion to its President, Pierre Baumann.
The event featured presentations by one of the organisation’s founding members Monique Paillard on the historical evolution of the organisation tracing its humble beginnings to its achievements over the past 30 years, an overview of past and present projects showcasing the key initiatives and their impact by Ms Florence Burrette and a presentation of profiles of children sponsored through the organisation, highlighting the transformative difference the sponsorship program has made in their lives.
The event concluded with cultural performances by renowned Tibetan artist Loten Namling from Switzerland, members of the Tibetan Community of Metz, Luxembourg and local Luxembourgish artists. A photo exhibition documenting its 30-year journey was on display for the public.
Established in 1995, Les Amis du Tibet Luxebourg has played a vital role in strengthening Tibetan refugee settlements through scholarship programs, healthcare initiatives, cultural preservation projects, and environmental awareness campaigns. Over the years, the organisation has collaborated closely with the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and various international partners to enhance the well-being and self-reliance of the Tibetan community in exile.
