On 30 August 2024, the Belgium Regional Tibetan Women’s Association celebrated Tibetan Democracy Day in Antwerp together with a gratitude ceremony to commemorate the enactment of the Resolve Tibet Act 2024 into U.S. law following its signing by President Joe Biden.
Chief guests Thinley Wangdue, Secretary of the Bureau du Tibet, along with Geshe Tsetan Phuntsok from Shedub Tengey-ling Buddhist Centre, Metok Rinpoche from Himalaya Dolma Buddhist Institute, representatives from the associations of Cholka-sum (the three traditional provinces of Tibet), and representatives from the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and regional Tibetan People’s Movement for Middle Way Approach, attended the celebration, bringing a significant number of participants.
During the event, Secretary Thinley Wangdue introduced the Resolve Tibet Act, explaining how the Act was formalised as U.S. policy following its signing by President Joe Biden in July and provided a brief overview of its provisions and significance. He expressed special gratitude to President Biden and every individual involved in translating this bill. He emphasised that the Act would offer significant encouragement to Tibetans inside and outside Tibet and send a stronger signal to the Chinese government.
