Antwerp: Representatives from the Office of Tibet, Brussels, joined the celebration of the 65th Tibetan Democracy Day, organised by the Belgium Regional Tibetan Women’s Association on 13 September 2025 at Noord Spoor Park, Antwerp.
In attendance were EU Advocacy Officer Tenzin Phuntsok and accountant Tenzin Nordhen, alongside Metok Rinpoche from the Himalaya Dolma Buddhist Institute, Geshe Tseten Phuntsok from Shedub Tengey-ling Buddhist Centre, and representatives from various regional Tibetan associations, together with large number from general public.
The celebration began with the offering of Mandel to the portrait of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, followed by a presentation of the auspicious traditional dance Tashi Sholpa by students of the weekend school.
In his keynote address, EU Advocacy Officer reflected on the 65 years of evolution and achievements of Tibetan democracy in exile, highlighting the tireless efforts of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in establishing and nurturing the democratic system Tibetans practice today. He underscored the importance of the public’s active participation and meaningful contribution to strengthening Tibetan democracy, as envisioned by His Holiness.
The occasion also coincided with the celebration of the 90th Birth Anniversary of His Holiness, observed as the “Year of Compassion.” The celebration cake was also offered during the celebration. Phuntsok also highlighted the Ghoton events undertaken so far and called on Tibetans in Belgium to actively participate in upcoming Ghoton events to mark this historic milestone.
To support the Tibetan democratic process, the Office of Tibet set up a booth for the community to make their annual Green Book contributions. A large number of people took this opportunity to fulfil their obligations during the event.
