
Brussels: On 6 September 2025, in honor of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday, the Office of Tibet in Brussels hosted an exclusive screening of the newly released documentary ‘Wisdom of Happiness’ at UGC De Brouckère, one of the city’s most prominent cinemas. The event, which filled the 309-seat theater to capacity, highlighted the enduring global admiration of His Holiness’ message of peace, compassion, and universal responsibility.
The event was chaired by Representative Genkhang from the Office of Tibet, Brussels, accompanied by her team members from the Office of Tibet, including Secretary Thinley Wangdue, European Tibetan Liaison Officer Dhondup Gyalpo, EU Advocacy Officer Tenzin Phuntsok, and Accountant Tenzin Nordhen.
The screening was held as part of the global observance of 2025 as the “Year of Compassion,” a year-long tribute to His Holiness’ life and legacy. It was directed by Barbara Mila and Delaquis. Wisdom of Happiness is a rare and intimate documentary that features a direct dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The film offers timeless insights on inner peace, compassion, and hope in a fractured world-resonating strongly in a time of global uncertainty.
In her opening remarks, Representative Rigzin Choedon Genkhang welcomed the audience and guests to what she described as a “special and intimate screening.” She highlighted the significance of the Year of Compassion, explaining that the event was part of a broader global series in reflection of His Holiness’s lifelong dedication to peace, compassion and nonviolence.
“The film offers a rare, direct dialogue with His Holiness,” noted Representative Genkhang. “It provides deeply relevant guidance for our times, especially as we face mounting global challenges. She urged the audience to let this be a reminder of the world we could build if we each chose to live compassionately.”
The screening drew a diverse audience, including officials from the European Union, journalists, Tibetan community leaders, Buddhist representatives, Tibetans residing in Belgium, and many Tibet supporters and well-wishers. The film was met with heartfelt appreciation- prompting personal reflection on how compassion can be a transformative force in both individual and societal healing.
The Brussels screening of Wisdom of Happiness made a meaningful contribution to the global Year of Compassion initiative by extending His Holiness’ enduring message and inspiring viewers to cultivate peace, kindness, and universal responsibility within themselves. Given the enthusiastic reception, the Office of Tibet in Brussels may host additional exclusive screenings in the coming months to continue celebrating the “Year of Compassion’’.
