Secretary Thinley Wangdue Visits Choerig Zin-Kyong-Khang’s Jamyang Lophel Tibetan Language and Culture School in Oostende

Office of Tibet Brussels’s Secretary Thinley Wangdue paid a short visit to the Oostende-based Choerig Zinkyong Khang’s Jamyang Lophel Tibetan language and culture school on Sunday.

The organisation runs 6 schools with over 372 Children in Belgium namely Antwerp, Brussels,Leuven, Oostende, Gent and Bruge.
With the request from the Oostende school’s regional director Tenzin Khando and president of the parents’ association Sonam Tsewang, Secretary Thinley paid a short visit which was aimed to assess the ground situation of the school.
Lhakpa Tsering, school’s former Tibetan teacher and currently overseeing the school’s news and media section presented the chronological report of the school since its inception in 2010. He reckoned that with barely four students in the year 2010, yet they have never looked back and instead kept on moving ahead. With the tireless efforts of the teachers, parents, and staffs; number of the students gradually increased in the past twelve years.
Today Jamyang Lophel School of Oostende has around 65 students, taught in 8 classes from preliminary to sixth grade. The subjects taught at the school are on par with the Department of Education’s recommended books designed especially for the oversea language and culture schools.
Following the assessment tour of the school, the Secretary Thinley addressed the teachers, executive members of parent association and students. He conveyed the office’s appreciation for their services despite their busy schedules and limited resources. He commended the teachers’ and supportive staffs for their positive impact on the young children by encouraging their learning interest in Tibetan culture and language. He further stressed that unlike in India, parents need to shoulder greater responsibility as children spend more time with the parents than in school. He also explained that if the budget is sanctioned, Office of Tibet, Brussels will organize a teachers’ training in the FY-2023.
With a vote of thanks from Thupten Kunkyen la, the program was concluded.
After the school assessment tour, Secretary Thinley Wangdue joined the Under Secretary, Tenzin Nordhen to collect the Green Book contribution dues for the Financial Year 2022 in Oostende.
