Brussels: On 20 December 2025, a commemorative event was held at Sherab Nangje Weekend School in Antwerp, Belgium, to mark the 36th anniversary of the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The European Tibetan Liaison Officer, Dhondup Gyalpo, attended the event as the chief guest.
The main programme commenced at 4:30 pm with the enthronement of a portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, followed by the offering of mandalas, sweet rice, and Tibetan tea.
The programme opened with long-life prayers for His Holiness, followed by the Tibetan national anthem and a minute of silence in honour of Tibetan heroes and martyrs. Director of Sherab Nangje Weekend School, Lobsang Khedrup, provided an overview of the school and its current situation, and expressed gratitude to all supporters.
In his address, the chief guest highlighted that the conferring of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness brought global recognition to the Tibet issue, increased international interest in Tibetan religion and culture, expanded His Holiness’s global activities, and established him as a beacon of non-violence. He noted that the Nobel Peace Prize has been central to these achievements.
Tibetan Liaison Officer Dhondup Gyalpo further stressed the importance of strengthening Tibetan language, culture, and education. He reminded the gathering that regardless of the documents Tibetans may hold in foreign countries, they remain Tibetans by blood and identity, and must never forget Tibet and the Tibetan issues. He also underscored the importance of contributing to the Green Book (Chatrel) and raising public awareness about it.
Former executive members who had previously served the school delivered the concluding remarks and expressed their gratitude, marking the formal conclusion of the ceremony. This was followed by the serving of refreshments to the guests, after which students presented cultural performances.
Belgium-based Tibet Support Group, Lungta’s president, Han, and his wife distributed free photo exhibitions related to His Holiness, badges, keychains, and many other items as part of their ongoing advocacy activities.
