The Tibetan Community in Belgium celebrated the 87th Birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Antwerp’s Nord park on Sunday, 17 July with much fanfare though the temperature in Europe is touching almost 40 degrees Celsius. Secretary Thinley Wangdue, Office of Tibet, Brussels attended as the Chief Guest while other guests included representatives from Tibetan organisations including the members of Belgium’s Tibetan community.
Prior to the commencement of celebration, Tibetans were briefed about the upcoming Tibetan demographic survey of CTA and their requirement to actively participate in the survey. It was collectively decided that representatives from different communities will work as an enumerator during the upcoming demographic survey.
At the same event, prayers were recited to mark solidarity with the recent tragic death of a Tibetan man stabbed by a Chinese restaurant owner in France.
Palden Tsering, President of the Tibetan Community in Belgium made a strongly worded appeal to working sincerely in fulfilling His Holiness’s wishes and practising the teachings of His Holiness.
Secretary Wangdue echoed the same appeal and further called on Tibetans to unite in promoting universal responsibility, love, compassion, and tolerance, espoused by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
