Amsterdam: The Netherlands Tibetan Community organised a two-day celebration to mark the 91st Birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on 30 June 2026. Approximately 500 Tibetans from various cities and provinces across the Netherlands participated in the event, demonstrating strong community engagement. The programme commenced with a solemn enthronement of His Holiness’ portrait, conducted by local monks, setting a spiritual tone for the event.

Norbu Tsering, President of the Netherlands Tibetan Community, addressed the gathering. He spoke on the significance of His Holiness’ teachings of compassion, non-violence, and cultural preservation in exile.

Tenzin Nordhen, Accountant, Office of Tibet, Brussels, attended as Chief Guest. In his remarks, he appreciated the Netherlands Tibetan Community for its consistent efforts since inception in preserving Tibetan culture, language, and identity. He also recognised the Netherlands Tibetan Ghoton Committee’s activities during the “Year of Compassion”, including interfaith dialogue, a Peace Cycle rally for peace, and free meal services for underprivileged people. He also collected Green Book chatrel from approximately 150 community members, symbolising continued financial and moral support for the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan cause.

Traditional Tibetan sweet rice was distributed to all attendees as a mark of celebration. In these 2 days featured numerous Tibetan circle dances and indoor cultural activities performed by community members of all ages, showcasing the rich heritage of Tibet. In the evening, a small programme was held with a cake-cutting ceremony to mark His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 91st Birthday, bringing an element of joy and festivity.

Representatives from ICT Netherlands and the Tibet Support Group, Netherlands were present. They presented certificates and prizes to the rank holders of the Netherlands Weekend Tibetan School, encouraging younger generations to maintain proficiency in Tibetan language and culture.

The two-day event was conducted successfully with active participation and support from community leaders, religious representatives, and partner organisations. The Netherlands Tibetan Community’s efforts were widely appreciated by the Office of Tibet, Brussels, and set a positive example for other Tibetan communities in Europe.
