Brussels, 03 December 2021: The second EU-US high-level meeting dialogue on China was held on 02 December in Washington. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman represented the US and the European External Action Service (EEAS) Secretary General Stefano Sannino represented the EU.
They discussed a wide range of foreign policy issues of mutual concern. In a joint declaration following their high-level meeting, the European Union and the United States highlighted among other things, the ongoing human rights abuses and violations in China and systemic repression, including in Tibet. The two sides also discussed a growing list of China’s actions that are of shared concern, including those that breach international law and those that are against the shared values and interests of the United States and the European Union.
Deputy Secretary of State Sherman and Secretary General Sannino decided to continue meetings in this dialogue at senior official and expert levels, with the next high-level meeting to take place in mid-2022.
It may be recalled that the first high-level meeting dialogue on China took place on 26 May in Brussels this year.
