Representative Rigzin Genkhang called on MEP Jordi Solé, a long time friend in the European Parliament to update him on the critical human rights situation in Tibet. She briefed him on the forcible detention of Tibetans in quarantine centres by the Chinese authorities using “zero Covid policy” as a pretext, mass DNA collection drive of the Tibetan population, the operation of Colonial style boarding schools where children aged 4 to 18 are forcibly separated from their parents and sent to boarding schools where they are forced to learn Chinese and are subjected to “patriotic education” aimed at total Sinicization of Tibetan language, culture, and identity, among other issues.
He listened to Representative Genkhang’s presentation with a lot of attention and sympathy and ensured his continued support. The two sides agreed to work together and take concrete actions to highlight the aforementioned issues in the European Parliament.
MEP Solé is from Spain and sits within the Greens/European Free Alliance group in the European Parliament.
