Representative Genkhang attended the Parents’ Day at the Jamyang Lophel Sunday School. It is the weekend Tibetan school run by the Tibetan Cultural Centre (TCC) in 6 different locations in Belgium. There are 341 students, 45 teachers and 17 volunteers at the schools.
Every year TCC organises a week-long summer camp for the students and one of the days is observed as Parents’ Day. This year, 120 students aged 7 to 15 took part in the summer camp. Unlike in the past, this year they also saw the participation of students from France and Germany.
The event was presided over by special guest H.E. Ranyak Patrul Rinpoche and chief guest Representative Rigzin Genkhang.
Phuntsok Namgyal, TCC person in charge of the 12th edition of the summer camp gave an overview of the programme.
H.E. Ranyak Patrul Rinpoche thanked the contribution of the school and called for unity among Tibetans.
In her remarks, Representative Genkhang emphasised the crucial role of the school and the teachers in preserving and promoting the Tibetan language and culture in the diaspora at a critical time when the Chinese authorities are making deliberate attempts to eradicate them in Tibet. She thanked them for their selfless contribution. She then urged the parents to nurture children into becoming compassionate individuals. She also underlined the importance of spending time with children.
Representative Genkhang also expressed her gratitude to H.E. Ranyak Patrul Rinpoche for hosting the children during the summer camp within the premises of his centre every year.
