European Parliament Hosts Documentary Screening Titled “Democracy: The Gift of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to Tibet”

Brussels:  The Office of Tibet in Brussels with the kind support from MEP Hannes Heide, Vice-Chair of the European Parliamentary Friend of Tibet, and MEP Mauriz Kamiński, a member of the group, successfully organised the documentary screening of “Democracy: The Gift of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to Tibet” at the European Parliament on 23 September 2025.

The event was attended by the two co-hosting MEPs and their dedicated staff, along with members from Voluntary Tibet Advocacy Group(VTAG), Students for Free Tibet (SFT), and International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), as well as 12 young Tibetans currently in Brussels for a Tibet lobby workshop.

The documentary was first screened at the 9th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet (WPCT) in Tokyo earlier this year which discussed on the evolution and progress of Tibetan democracy under the guidance and blessings of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

In his opening remarks, MEP Hannes Heide reflected on his earlier meetings with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala and his participation in the recent 9th WPCT. He shared about his deep interest in Tibetan arts and culture, highlighted the importance of its preservation. He also reaffirmed his continued support for the Tibetan cause.

EU Advocacy Officer Tenzin Phuntsok spoke about the significance of this screening at the European Parliament, stressing the need for sustained support from European lawmakers. He also outlined the upcoming initiatives under the “Year of Compassion programme” where celebration and commemorations in Belgium will include a series of events, such as today’s documentary screening and an upcoming exhibition in the Parliament.

Also present at the screening were Secretary Thinlay Wangdue, Tibetan Liaison Officer Dhundup Gyalpo, and Accountant Tenzin Nordhen from the Office of Tibet-Brussels along with the supportive teams of the co-hosting MEPs.
