Belgium Ghoton Organising Committee Initiates Free Meal Programme to Mark “Year of Compassion”

August 29, 2025

Brussels: On 27 August 2025, the Regional Ghoton Organising Committee of Belgium launched a year-long initiative to provide free symbolic meals for 50 people every month from August 2025 to July 2026, in celebration of the “Year of Compassion.”

The program was organised in collaboration with Restro du Cœur and St. Gilles. This initiative aims to support underprivileged individuals in Brussels who struggle with daily meals. Through this service, The Committee seeks to promote the timeless message of compassion and altruism as espoused by His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama.

As part of the programme, 50 meals will be served each month for a year, symbolising the spirit of care and solidarity. This initiative is part of the wider Ghoton Celebration activities in Belgium.

The programme was officially launched on 27 August 2025, when members of the Belgium Ghoton Organising Committee joined staff at Restro du Cœur and St. Gilles, to serve meals from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm.

The members of the Ghoton Organising Committee is committed to provide nourishment and foster compassion, kindness, and unity within society.

This initiative is part of the wider global observances by Tibetan communities and friends of Tibet, who are marking the Year of Compassion with diverse activities to honour and uphold the teachings of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
