Belgium, 22–26 November 2025: Additional Election Commissioner Nangsa Choedon, accompanied by Section Officer Tenzin Lhakey, successfully concluded an election awareness programme in Belgium to strengthen public understanding of the forthcoming 2026 Sikyong and Tibetan Parliamentary Elections. The tour, held under the jurisdiction of the Regional Election Commission (REC) Belgium, aimed to promote a fair, transparent, and well-informed electoral process within the Tibetan diaspora.
The delegation was warmly received on 22 November at Brussels Airport by Representative Genkhang Rigzin Choedon, who is also the Local Election Commissioner of Belgium, and Secretary Thinley Wangdue.
On 23 November, the Additional Election Commissioner held a meeting from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with the five Regional Election Committee Members and observers, in collaboration with the Belgium Regional Election Office. Discussions focused on administrative preparedness, coordination responsibilities, and key procedural updates ahead of the 2026 elections.
In the afternoon, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, an election awareness programme was organised at the Schoten Buddhist Institute for Tibetans residing across Belgium. The session highlighted the evolution of Tibetan democracy in exile, the importance of active voter participation, and the vital role of an informed electorate in strengthening democratic institutions.
The public was also briefed on key components of the electoral process, including: voter registration procedures, voting methods and ballot secrecy, criteria for invalid ballots, and penalties for electoral misconduct and interference.
Additional Election Commissioner Nangsa Choedon further reminded attendees of the official dates for the preliminary and final rounds of the Sikyong and Parliamentary elections, along with essential guidelines governing the voting process. Community members raised questions, which were addressed in detail to ensure clarity and encourage informed participation.
On 24 November, the Additional Election Commissioner paid a brief visit to the Office of Tibet, Brussels, to further enhance coordination and preparedness for the 2026 elections.
The delegation is scheduled to depart Brussels for France on 26 November 2025.
The awareness programme was attended and supported by Representative Genkhang Rigzin Choedon, the Chief Local Election Officer, and staff members of the Office of Tibet, Brussels, who actively assisted throughout the tour.
