Bureau du Tibet, Brussels

The Office of Tibet in Brussels represents His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration-in-Exile based in Dharamsala, India. Established in 2001, its main function is to raise awareness of the plight of the Tibetan people, to draw attention of the world public opinion, particularly that of the European Community in order to mobilize support of governments and peoples of these countries to find a peaceful solution to the Tibetan issue and the functioning of the democratically elected Central Tibetan Administration-in-exile. It is responsible for bilateral relations with the Benelux, Iberia, Maghreb and the EU institutions.

It serves as a liaison office and source of information on matters relating to Tibetans inside and outside Tibet, including history, culture, religion, environment and all aspects of the Tibetan way of life.

The office oversees arrangements for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visits and that of the Tibetan official delegation to the countries falling under its jurisdiction. It also looks after the welfare of the Tibetans living in these countries and maintains close contact with the Tibet support groups and the Tibetan Buddhist centers based in them.

Maintaining direct contact with governments, Parliaments, non-governmental organisations and human rights groups, the Office of Tibet keeps them informed of recent developments in Tibet. It monitors the current political and social conditions in Chinese-occupied Tibet and provides up-to-date information to interested parties.

The Office helps to coordinate the exchange of information between individuals and organisations working for the welfare of the Tibetan people in and outside Tibet. It also analyses media coverage of Tibet and make this information available to different governments, organisations and interested individuals.
The Office has assisted in the production of various documentaries for television companies, radio stations, newspapers and magazines. Its officials continue to be invited to speak on Tibet and assist in various Tibet-related exhibitions, cultural and other programmes.
